Things Are Different Now

July 29th, 2020

It’s nearly August, and the US is still battling a pandemic. My world and that of most of my friends, and most of the readers of this post, has been severely impacted.

I’ve been showing my work at Art Fairs 14 or 15 times a year since late 2001. That kind of schedule also drives a sense of urgency and my daily priorities. As you all know, most shows have been cancelled or postponed until next year, at least. I’m personally not expecting to be participating again until 2022, we’ll see. I, like many of you, miss these events, not just for the opportunity to sell, but also to talk to people about my work.

So, what am I doing? I’m still working, but I am beginning to shift my focus away from what I need to make to fill gaps in my inventory to things that I really want to make. As they go through the process, I’ll post the results on-line, but the pace is slower. I’m also using this time to try and get my digital house in order and work through all of the images of my work that I’ve taken over the last 20 years. I’ve begun posting all of these images on Pinterest by categories (boxes, baskets, etc.). If you would like to see them, enter in your browser search bar and browse away. I think they will reveal a progression in the work itself, and also in my abilities as a photographer. I’ve not dated any individual piece, or included dimensions, but am just publishing a complete portfolio. Some of the work is better than others, and that’s what you would hope for. I’ve never attempted to catalog my failures, of which there have been many, but have only photographed those pieces that I felt good about at the time. I hope you enjoy seeing them, and please send me comments or call if you wish.

I’m also going to revamp my web site at some point, but that’s a little further off. And I will be adding some form of on-line sales as well. Over the years, I’ve gotten a lot of process questions, and am working to document that as well. Lots to do, lots to do.

Stay well, and stay tuned.

Piedmont Craftsmen in Winston-Salem, NC

November 11th, 2015

Next week, I will be heading to Winston-Salem, NC for the annual Crafts Fair. In my opinion, it’s one of the nicest fine craft shows in the country. At around 100 exhibitors comprised of members and jury applicants, it has a friendly and intimate feel with ample opportunity to see a lot and speak with all the exhibitors.

On the way to the Bonita Springs National

January 11th, 2012

Always one of my favorite shows, I’m back in 2012 after a one year hiatus. Looking forward to seeing customers from years past and meeting some new people as well. I had a great weekend and Las Olas in Ft. Lauderdale and am on to show number 2 for 2012. Hope to see you there.

Back in the studio

January 4th, 2011

I just got back from Howard Alan’s January Las Olas Art Fair in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. It was great to escape the cold weather in Marietta for the warm climes of Florida, even if just for a couple of days. I was very impressed with the show. The crowds were great, with very knowledgeable, interested buyers and shoppers. Howard and Debbie Alan were there all weekend as well. I hope to be able to go back next year.

For the rest of Jan and all of Feb I’ll be in the studio preparing for 3 shows in March. Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions or comments.
